Tortoise vs. Hare

In case you're wondering, I'm the tortoise. Always have been. You can't rush me. Well, except if I feel rushed and then I become the hare and then I'm just a hot mess trying to race to get things done. Yes, I'm a walking contradiction.

ANYway, I feel like my weight loss has been pretty slow. It's holding steady though so that part I'm happy about. I lost a little more weight this week, bringing me to a total of 21.2 since June 7th.

I do feel as though it's kind of an excuse to say "as soon as it gets cool I'll exercise more, we'll go for walks," but honestly, that's how I feel. Triple digits and rainforest-like humidity is hard to compete with when you're out of shape and I'm certainly not going to make Little sweat it out for my benefit, even if she does have her own a/c. (Seriously, she does, but it can only do so much.) The fall/winter/spring seasons here are awesome and I'm certainly not going to keep us cooped up in the house. I want to be outside as much as possible. So really, I know I'll get more activity when it cools down and therefore drop weight faster, but could it cool down already?

I'm starting to see a difference in my body. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not to the point I want it to be, but I see the potential. I see where I can and will be. That's a pretty big motivation to keep going.

What I did well this week: I stayed within my points. I don't even think I used all of my flex points.

What I didn't do so well: Drink water. Track my points. I kept track in my head and I know I didn't eat enough to go over on my points, but I couldn't tell you half of what I ate last week...or a third even.

Motivation for this week: I want my weight to roll over to the next...what the heck do you call it? Decade? Nah, that's not right. Basically where the second digit rolls over...or down...or up, depending on your weight.

My skin has also gone crazy--possibly from having my first couple of menstrual cycles (TMI anyone?) in over a year--but this is a condition I've had for something like 15 years. It can be aggravated by hormones, but also by carrying around extra weight. Seeing as I've been carrying around some amount of excess weight since some time in high school, it might make a huge difference to lose the weight. (Regardless, the skin condition supposedly resolves on its own eventually. Yes, "eventually." Way to go with the specifics, MDs, PhDs and all the other scientific-minded peeps with the alphabet soup behind their names.) It's a pretty big motivation to lose the weight though. It makes me self-conscious every single day.

Also, I need to buy a new bathing suit. Mine are either way too big or roll up because they're too tight. I don't feel good in either. I'd like to keep on losing weight so I can feel better about myself in general, but particularly in a bathing suit.

So, what's your thought? Do you think slow and steady "wins the race," so to speak for long-term/lifelong weight loss success?

  1. Slow is better, frustrating, but better. The weight stays off longer the slower you lose it! Just keep that in mind!
